Smart Home Tech: Our Nest Security System | Smart Home Tour Ep 01

What up y’all it’s Ashley Renne and
welcome back to my vegan travel sustainable lifestyle and smart tech
youtube channel where i show you how to live in adventurously green life. Now for
those of you who’ve been rocking with me for a while you know that I spent ten
months building a new house and it’s a house that I turn into a smart home. Now
you guys already know that I have a very smart car a Tesla so it only makes sense
that I filled my new home with smart technology as well. Now for the first few
videos of my smart home automation series I want to focus on my top
recommendations for smart tech devices that I think you should get started with
based on how easy they are to implement and the amount of value that they add to
your everyday life starting with smart home security. Now I chose the nest brand because it
has its own system of interconnectivity for all of its different products that
it sells but then it also pairs very well with our larger smart home eco
system the Google assistant and what is an eco system exactly? So basically an
eco system is the hub that connects all of your smart devices together and not
all ecosystems pair with all smart devices and the way that you tell
whether or not a device works with a certain eco system is you look on the
label to see what it works with and our nest works with our Google ecosystem so
it only made sense it was a no-brainer to go with nest. Now Nest has several
different products that you can manage all within the app but for this video I
want to focus on security so let’s get into it. Let’s start off with nest secure
which includes the nest guard, nest detect, nest tag and of course the nest
app. This is the nest guard which acts as the alarm, keypad and motion sensor.
You can arm your house in several ways one of which is by entering a code into
the nest guard keypad or you can use the nest tag to arm and disarm your house.
all you do is tap it against the nest guard when you’re leaving or entering
your home but our favorite way is to just arm and disarm it from the nest
app or you could even ask your Google assistant to arm or disarm your house as
well. The other part to the nest secure system is nest detect which is the
sensor for your doors, windows and rooms If you’re home and you open a door that
has this device on it you’ll hear a chime. If you’re not at home and the
house is armed when the sensor detects motion you’ll get an alert to your phone
and the alarm will go off alerting your security monitoring service. Security
alert. In addition to Nest Secure, we have Nest cams placed all throughout the
inside and outside of our house. Now this is really cool because we can monitor
everything that goes on in and outside of our home right from our phones so if
I want to spy on my dog I can do that right from my phone. I can watch the
footage live or I can go back and re-watch older footage. The app is going
to conveniently send you notifications whenever it sees activity. Part of our security system is having the
nest doorbell. Now the benefit of having a nest doorbell is it acts as both a
doorbell and a security camera. This thing is super cool because not only can
it give surveillance of you know the front of your home whenever somebody
comes to your door but you can also talk through it straight through the nest app and the cool thing about Nest is Google
is the parent company to nest so when somebody rings your doorbell actually
your Google devices will broadcast to you that somebody is at the front
door. I really like how at any given moment I can ask Google to show me the
footage from the cameras throughout my house. For example here I ask Google to
show me the front door camera. So now it’s your turn. You tell me how you
secure your home. All the devices that we just mentioned are what we use to secure
ours and I provided links to what I mentioned in the description below. Now
if you’re just getting started with smart home automation I suggest you
start out with the nest hello video doorbell and the nest secure because of how easy
it is to install. It works really well together in the nest app and it adds so
much value to your every day life. That’s all I got if you really enjoyed this
video make sure to give it a huge thumbs up and subscribe for more of my smart
tech series. Until next time keep on living an adventurously green life.

  1. The doorbell talk option is one of my favorite of our smart home (not nest)
Except for when my husband scares me and randomly screams something through it when he is at work and gets notified I'm at the door. ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฃ

  2. Nice video! I secure my place by just locking the front door! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ But itโ€™s just me in a one bedroom apartment. If I had a home I would definitely have more smart tech. I am going to get a Bluetooth door opener though. I think the one by August will work with my lock.

  3. Honestly, I've felt overwhelmed by all the different products on the market but you broke this down easily and I can't wait to get my hands on a few products! Glad you're back with the videos! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Thank you for this video, very informative! Quick question: does this system pair well with iPhone (given that Nest is part of the Google ecosystem)? Or is this system better with an Android phone?

  5. Two questions…

One, how does this announcement affect this?

Two, what sort of home owner insurance discount are you receiving? If not, have you looked into an insurance company that will provide the discount?

  6. Very interesting stuff Ashley! Did you make all those animations yourself? The one at 1:15 was really cool
