Outstanding Rescue Cat finalist: Florence – Cats Protection’s National Cat Awards 2018

Hello, my name’s Reverend Christine
French and my cat’s Florence! Florence is a really special cat – special in many
ways – but the way that astounds us is actually Florence has a disability. She
was born deaf, she can’t hear. But she’s not let that stop her having a full life
and that’s one of the reasons we had her. The rescue centre we worked with
was Millwood Cat Rescue in West Bridgford because they needed a special
home for a special cat and we’ve had that privilege. On a daily basis Florence
gives me a lot of grief, because when I shout at her she can’t hear me!
So Florence is feisty, she’s mischievous and she’s full of life and spirit and
enthusiasm. Life without Florence would actually be quite sad because Florence
is an inspiration, not just to me, but when I go into the schools, at assemblies,
I tell them about Florence and how the fact that because she can’t hear, she’s not
let it stop her doing what she can do. She sticks up for herself against the
other cats and she stops bullying and she’s a really good reminder that
actually, don’t think about what we can’t do in life, but get on and enjoy what we
can do. Florence deserves this award because she’s been a source of
inspiration to hundreds of children in the school and I go to, but also
individuals who come to the churchyard. She walks down with them to the graves
and sits with them and offers them that special bit of comfort, so she’s known
and loved in our parish and perhaps that’s why she should win the award
because of how much other people love her too.

  1. I have a question for you guys and gals. Is it okay for anyone to flick a cat's ear as long as one doesn't go overboard with it by flicking the ear (or the other ear) hard multiple times a day (I don't do that stuff with cats myself just so you know)?
