OP Bushfire Assist – Japanese C-130s arrive at RAAF Base Richmond

We’re here today to welcome the Japanese Self-Defense Force to RAAF Base Richmond as we accept their really generous offer
of providing two C-130 aircraft to assist our Air Mobility fleet in
responding to this bushfire crisis. The additional C-130s that the Japanese are
bringing will be vital in helping us out, so they will slot in seamlessly
with our operations. It’s a true reflection of friends supporting each
other in crisis and we truely appreciate it. We had a big disaster 9 years ago East
Japan Earthquake at that time Australian Air Force deployed C-17s and
that was a great help for us. We never forget what Australia did at that time. Australia and the Japanese Self-Defense Force have a growing relationship, we train with them in humanitarian assistance and disaster
relief we’ve done that in the past and that sets us up for success as we work
together during this crisis. We train ourselves everyday,
we want to do our best to help Australia. It’s a great contribution and it will really
help not just the ADF deliver the support but it’s a great support to the
Australian community.
