>>IF THEY REALLY HAD MY SON I
MAY NOT GET BACK BUT I HAD TO DO
WHAT THEY SAID BECAUSE I WANTED
MY SON
JOSEPHINE GARCIA WAS ON HER
WAY TO PICK UP HER SON FROM SCHOOL MONDAY WHEN SHE THOUGHT
SHE GOT A CALL FROM HIM.>>HELLO?>>I HEARD WHAT I THOUGHT WAS MY
SON PROFUSELY CRYING, TELLING ME
THAT HE HAD BEEN TAKEN. THAT HE WAS IN TROUBLE.>>FOR SEVERAL HOURS, SCAMMERS
KEPT HER ON THE LINE AND MADE
HER BELIEVE THEY WERE HOLDING
HIM HOSTAGE, DEMANDING SHOULD
PAY $4000. THEY TRICKED HER INTO WIRING
MONEY TO THEM FROM SEVERAL AREA
DRUGSTORES, BUT IT WAS ONLY
AFTER SHE SENT THE MONEY THAT
SHE REALIZED IT WAS A SCAM.>>THEY CALL THIS EMERGENCY
FRAUD. IT’S REALLY SCARY. AND I DON’T THINK UNLESS YOU ARE
IN THAT POSITION, YOU CAN
UNDERSTAND THE FEAR AND NOT
KNOWING.>>SHE JUST HOPES OTHER’S LEARN
FROM HER STORY.>>I JUST DON’T WANT THIS TO
HAPPEN TO SOMEBODY ELSE, BECAUSE
I WILL TELL YOU I WILL NEVER
FORGET WHAT I WENT THROUGH.>>EXPERTS SAY TO AVOID BEING
SCAMMED, RESIST THE URGE TO ACT
IMMEDIATELY. TRY TO ASK QUESTIONS THAT A
STRANGER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO
ANSWER, AND DON’T WIRE
