Offa robbery: Bank sacks staff over CCTV footage leakage


One of the five commercial banks affected attacked by a gang of robbers in Offa, Kwara state, has terminated the appointment of five members of its staff for allegedly leaking the CCTV footage of the robbery to the public. Not long after the after the April 5, robbery incidents where no less than fifty people were reportedly killed, a video clip of the incident had gone viral, showing how the robbers entered one of the banks. Punch reports that management of the bank was surprised at how the video got into public space and sacked five of its workers last Friday. The Kwara state Police Public Relations Officer, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the Nigeria Police Force would also deal with anyone linked to the robbery. Okasanmi said both civilians and uniformed men linked to the incident would not go scot-free. He said: “Whether civilian or police, whoever is found culpable would be dealt with accordingly. Meanwhile, we earlier reported that twelve suspects arrested in connection with the Offa bank robbery who are currently being interrogated by the police, were apprehended via tracking of mobile phones which they collected from victims. The stolen phones were given to their girlfriends, after they had carried out the robbery operation. we gathers that the interrogation of the girlfriends was what led to the arrest of the suspects in Abeokuta, Lagos and Ibadan. Before carrying out that operation, the suspects were also discovered to have been in and out of jail.
