Nest Cam IQ Outdoor Review

Gabe: Hey, folks. This is Gabe at Security Baron. Today, we’re checking out the Nest Cam IQ
Outdoor. Let’s review how intelligent it actually is. [music] Gabe: In today’s review of the Nest Cam IQ
Outdoor, I’m going to check out some of those cool new features like 1080p with HDR, put
it to the Security Baron necessary features test before finally delving into that mobile
application so you have all the information you need to make the right decision. [background music] Gabe: If you like to see the list of our favorite
home security cameras, Google “Security Baron best home security cameras.” If you have a question about today’s review,
leave us a comment and I will get back to you. Let’s put the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor to the Security
Baron necessary features test. Here at Security Baron, we like every camera
we review to have stellar video quality, two-way audio, night vision, local and cloud storage,
smart platform integration, artificial intelligence, convenience and value. Stellar video quality is a Security Baron
necessary feature. We like to see, at least,1080p high definition
video in a 120-degree field of view. The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor exceeds that, with
1080p with HDR and a 130-degree field of view. What’s HDR? HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. It allows the camera to capture more light. Those outdoor photos and videos are going
to be that much more detailed. If that wasn’t enough, you also have 12x digital
zoom with the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. When it comes to video quality, we’re giving
it full marks. A Security Baron necessary feature is two-way
audio. Two-way audio allows you to hear what’s going
on anywhere around your camera’s microphone and allows a person on the other end to hear
you speaking or yelling, if need be. Fortunately, the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has very
crisp, clear audio quality. For two-way audio, we have to give it full
marks. Hold on, quick break. I hope you’re enjoying today’s review of the
Nest Cam IQ Outdoor home security camera. You will be kept up-to-date on the newest
in smart home security cameras, smart home security systems, just smart homes in general. Subscribe to our channel. We’re dropping new contents weekly. All right, let’s get back to the video. Night vision is a Security Baron necessary
feature because you want to be able to see what’s going on on your property, be it your
yard or inside your home, no matter how dark it is. Fortunately, the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has high-powered
infrared LEDs that make sure that you’re having a clear vision of whatever’s taking place,
no matter how dark it is. When it comes to Security Baron necessary
features, the night vision, we’re giving the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor full marks. Local and cloud storage are Security Baron
necessary feature. We like local storage because we think you
should have options on where you place your data or rather where you store it. However, with Nest Cam IQ, there isn’t local
storage option but you do get from the very beginning three hours of free cloud storage. If you like to increase that, it’s $5 a month
for 5 days of cloud storage, $10 a month for 10 days of cloud storage, and $30 a month
for 30 days of cloud storage. However, you wouldn’t have to worry about
that for one year as you get one year of premium Nest Aware cloud storage with every purchase
of a Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. When it comes to the Security Baron Necessary
Feature of local and cloud storage, we’re giving the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor half marks. Smart Platform Integration is one of the more
fun elements of the Security Baron Necessary Features test that allows you to really get
the most out of your smart home. Fortunately, the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor integrates
with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, so you’ll be able to sync everything in your
home. Things like the Philips Hue light bulb. You can make sure that, in conjunction, you’re
capturing everything going on around your home. When it comes to smart platform integration,
the Security Baron Necessary Features Test, we’re giving the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor full
marks. Artificial intelligence is a Security Baron
necessary feature. Generally, artificial intelligence refers
to person detection or facial recognition. In the case of the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, it
refers to both. It does have person detection, so any time
it detects movement, it’s not going to give you a notification on your phone for a squirrel
or a car passing by your yard. It’s going to say, hey there’s a person here. Then, it’s actually going to zoom in on that
movement so that you can track what is happening on your property. On top of that, if you get Nest Aware, which
it comes with for one year, you’ll also be able to get facial recognition technology
at your fingertips. When it comes to artificial intelligence for
the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, we have to give it full marks. Convenience is a Security Baron Necessary
Feature and the one most related to headaches because you want the installation process
to be convenient and you want the day-to-day use to be convenient. When it comes to installing the Nest Cam IQ
Outdoor digitally, very simple. You can have it done in fewer than five minutes. That being said, you want to note that it
is one of the heavier home security cameras that we’ve ever utilized. It is especially meant for outdoor use. That’s going to require a little bit longer,
possibly more extensive of a physical installation process. We just wanted to note that. When it comes to convenience and the Nest
Cam IQ Outdoor, we want to give it full marks. Value is a Security Baron Necessary Feature. When you first see that $349 sticker price,
it does hit you hard. We want you to keep in mind the fact that
this is a part of the Nest ecosystem. If you’re looking at Nest Thermostat, Nest
Indoor Cam, Nest Outdoor Cam, you have to realize that the Nest Cam IQ is bringing a
whole another dimension of artificial intelligence to that ecosystem and it’s a hubless camera. If you actually look at the other cameras
on the market, it’s in line with those prices as an outdoor camera without requiring that
hub. When it comes to value and the Security Baron
Necessary Features Test, we’re giving the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor full marks. Let’s see how the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor performed
on a Security Baron Necessary Features Test. Stellar video quality, full marks. The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor has 1080p high definition
video with HDR and a 130 degree field of view. Two-way audio, full marks. The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is equipped with a
mic and a speaker that allows you to hear and speak to whoever is in the vicinity of
the camera. Night vision, full marks. The high power infrared LEDs on the Nest Cam
IQ Outdoor allow you to get a clear vision of what’s going in the dark. Local and cloud storage, half marks. There’s no local storage option on the Nest
Cam IQ Outdoor. The cloud storage options can be a little
spendy. smart platform integration, full marks. With Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa capabilities,
the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is ready to integrate with your favorite smart platform. Artificial intelligence, full marks. The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor comes with person
detection, facial recognition, and automatic zooming. Convenience, full marks. The Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is super simple to
set up with their mobile application and even easier to use on a day-to-day basis. Value, full marks. Despite the high price, we do think that the
Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is a good value for a hubless outdoor security camera. [background music] Gabe: Final element I want to dive in today
when we’re looking at the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is its mobile application. The mobile application is where you’re going
to get live stream footage, view your cloud-stored videos, and yell at those kids to get off
of your lawn. When it comes to the Google Play Store, people
like the Next Cam app. It’s got 3.7 out of 5 stars, but I can’t say
the same in the Apple App Store where it only has 2.5 out of 5 stars. I will note that that is trending in a positive
direction as two or three months ago the Nest app was only at 2.1 out of 5 stars in the
Apple App Store. Speaking of which, let’s go ahead and check
it out on my iPhone X. Here we are checking out the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor’s
mobile application. You’ll see I just started it up. I call this one Guestroom. I wanted to give it a little bit of a different
vision. You can definitely see pretty well what’s
going on below. If I go out of here, this is the away called
Outside Intelligence. Let’s go ahead and click in. You can see what’s going on outside here in
Brooklyn. If I wanted to go ahead and look at more events
today, I could. You see all these motion events here. It’s capturing motion, but considering the
distance here you’re not worrying about any person detection. If I go below, I can look at the past five
days. I can look at specific people for new people
I’d seen. It says here, “Your cameras haven’t seen anyone
new yet.” I can hit the talk button or just create a
new clip. It’s going to create a new clip and add that
to my Nest account. Let’s go ahead and see what we get when we
follow people. Now it’s zooming. This is the auto-zoom feature, which is pretty
nifty, allows you to do more. Let’s go check out the settings. I can, of course, set up activity zones. If I wanted to create a zone here, I would
say, “I want to know whenever someone enters the street from over here.” Now that zone is set, zone one. Of course, I can check the schedule, notifications,
activity zones, familiar faces, turn it on or off. Once again, I want to note, even Nest will
tell you here, use this feature in compliance with the law. Depending on where you live, you might need
to get the consent of people visiting your home. This is especially true here in Brooklyn,
where you may have tons of people passing your home any day. We can look at the Nest Aware service here. We can go into close-up tracking view, night
vision, auto-on. There’s a host of different elements to look
at here, in settings. That’s our brief run-down of the mobile application
for the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. Here I am, checking out the Nest Cam IQ Outdoors
daytime vision. It’s got that 1080P with HDR. Ultimately, it looks pretty good. Of course, right now, it’s only about five
to six feet away from me, but let’s go ahead and check out that zoom capacity. We’ve already seen the auto zoom, but you
can also zoom with your fingers and really get a look at what’s happening, Australia,
India, Asia. You see that is capturing most everything
taking place in this room because it has 130-degree field of view, which is pretty solid. With that 1080P, this is what you see. Here I am checking out that solid night vision
with the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. It has four high-powered infrared LEDs that
seem to be doing the work of about 20 infrared LEDs. It is a clear picture, and I’m impressed with
Nest for providing that. If you look here, I can zoom. I can zoom into the globe. You can look at Africa here. You can see what’s happening. You just note that it’s a really good picture. You would definitely be able to identify me
in the dark using this camera. I would definitively want to reiterate that
I’m impressed with the night vision on the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. Now that we’ve put the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor
through the gauntlet, I’m going to tell you how I really feel. It has a bit of sticker shock that comes attached,
because it’s $349. I’ll say one thing, I actually think it’s
pretty well valued in the market, because it’s giving you that artificial intelligence
with person detection, auto zoom and facial recognition, and a hubless outdoor security
camera that fits right into the Nest ecosystem. That really can’t be beaten. When it comes to the Nest Cam IQ, for all
those reasons, I think it’s a strong choice for a home security camera. [background music] Gabe: That concludes our review of the Nest
Cam IQ Outdoor. If you appreciated today’s video, give us

  1. Great video. Can you do a video based off best wireless outdoor cameras? Since I live in a rental I do not have permission to drill holes into the walls. Thank you.

  2. Need to talk about connection, if you have 3 cameras and some far from router… What's the range… Some people can't even get it because nest camera connection would be too far at some houses

  3. Like your reviews but (there's always a but) we know who you are :). Saying "Security Baron" every 2 minutes tends to get old pretty quick…
