MOOC PCH1x | Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action with Hani Mansourian

– The Alliance for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action, is a platform, is a network of organizations that come together to
work on public goods, I would rather say technical public goods, that will help them deal with Protection of Children
in Humanitarian Action. For example, if the sector has a common tool to deal with the issue of case management, which is one of the processes that we use when we identify a child
that has been harmed, to take that child to safety, the whole process from identification to ensuring that the child
is safe and protected, we call it a Case Management Process. Now, if you have a common tool and can set up guidelines and standards that informs that activity, it will reduce, it will increase harmony, and it will reduce a
duplication of efforts, in terms of producing guidelines. So what we do is we bring
organizations together so that they have a
platform to collaborate on creating these public goods, that can then be used
by those organizations or other organizations, who may not have been part of the process, but because it’s interagency, the quality normally is much higher and the buying is much higher. Of course I have to add that all of those tools and standards, we emphasize they have
to be contextualized in whatever context they
are going to be used. The type of organizations that normally participate in
the work of the Alliance comprise of a variety of large international organizations, all the way to very
small local organizations who are interested in the technical area of Child protection in
Humanitarian Action. We also have several UN agencies that are members of the Alliance, like UNICEF, and UNHCR, and IOM, and ILO who have specific focus themselves. For example, UNICEF’s
focus is on children, UNHCR’s focus is on refugees. And all of this collective together brings different perspectives to our work, which enriches the products and the standards that we produce.
