Defiant/Prime-Line U 10385 Door Strike – Door Strike Plate, Door Security Plate

Okay! So, the security strike plate for your front
wooden door. In today’s video, I’m going to show you
and I will explain to you why it is one of my favorite door strike plate and why I really
recommend it to any front door. So stay tuned!
♪ [music] ♪ So, before I’m going to start, I want to
introduce myself. My name is Koby and I’m with Silver Eagle

plate, the first thing is going to be the distance between the latch and the deadbolt—so
between your door handle and the deadbolt. Now, this door strike plate, the distance
between the two is going to be 5 1/2 inches. So you’ve got to remember that. You want to measure your door before that. And if there is a different distance between
the two, sometimes, yeah, this door strike plate will not work for you guys. Okay! So, the second thing you must know before
you move forward with the installation of these door strike plate is going to be the
gap between the door and the frame. You want to make sure that there is enough
gap to install it. So what you want to do is to use a one-quarter
drill bit and just go from the top to the bottom in the space that you’re going to
install it, and make sure that it goes smoothly in. That’s what I do. Now, if there is not enough space for it,
you can still install this door strike plate, but you got to mortice the strike plate with
the actual frame. It’s a little bit difficult because you
have to use a hammer and a chisel. And if you don’t know how to do it, if you’ve
never done this before, therefore I don’t recommend to do that at all. Just forget about this door strike plate if
you’ve never done something like this before. That’s my recommendation. Of course, it’s up to you guys. So that’s the second thing. So, the third thing you must know before installing
this door strike plate is going to be the screws. Now, the screws that are provided with this
lock are going to be six 3” long screws (and shorter ones also), but the screws are
super cheap. They’re super cheap, guys. So I just don’t recommend to install them. The reason why, when you’re installing them,
and you tighten the screws a little bit more than you’re supposed to, the head of the
screws just break! So therefore, it leads me to the conclusion
that the screws are cheap. So just don’t use them. Anyway, what I recommend is to buy a small
box of heavy duty screws from any local hardware store, 3” to 3 1/2” screws. And then, just use those ones instead of the
ones that are provided with the door strike plate. So this is my recommendation for you guys. And let’s move to the fourth reason. So, the fourth and most important thing to
know before installing this door strike plate. When you’re installing this door strike
plate, and everything works well—you have the distance, you have the gap, you have the
right screws as I mentioned—when you shut the door, when the latch engage, your deadbolt
won’t lock properly, it is not aligned properly. And it’s happened to me almost every time
I’m installing this door strike plate. And if you’re watching this video and you
have the same issue, I have a solution. What you will need to fix that problem, you’re
going to have to use an actual power drill. And also, you’re going to have to use a
small tool that I will show a picture right there. Basically, what it is is a small tool meant
to shave some metal parts. And also, you can use it to shave wood. But this small tool is crucial for the installation. When I’m installing this door strike plate,
I always, always, always do the alignment so the deadbolt will lock properly. Now, you can buy this tool in the local hardware
store—not the big, famous one. The small ones usually are selling them. You can see how it looks on the picture. The one I use is a diamond cut. It is a fancy one. It’s very good. And it lasts for a long time. But if you can find something cheap that will
do the work as well, that’s what you’re going to have to do. You’re going to have to shave it on the
top, so the deadbolt can go in and out smooth enough because the manufacturer, for some
reason, didn’t think about it. But it’s an issue. So, this is the fourth thing. What you will have to do, don’t go crazy
if the deadbolt is not locking properly. I hope this tip will help you. Now, let’s move to the benefit of this lock
and why I recommend it. Let’s talk about the benefit of installing
this door strike plate. There are so many. But on a nutshell, this door strike plate
is increasing the security of your door. And it will make your door to be more kick
resistant, more burglary proof. Definitely and highly recommend. This is why I’m making this video! I want you to get my tips and my recommendation
about this awesome product. You’ve got six 3” screws. You can even install 3 1/2” and 4” screws
to your doorstep. You know how much it’s increasing the security
if someone tried to kick in the door? So, you can imagine. Alright! So, I’m not going to show you guys how to
install it. But if you do want me to make a video to show
you how to install it, please just write a comment down below. Let me know if you liked this video and if
you want me to make another video to show you guys how to install it. I’d be more than happy to answer as well

  1. A GREAT tip indeed! There were a rash of break-ins around where I live last year and they were ALL door kick ins. I added these to all my inward swinging doors last year.

And a tip for you sir. You should have that LAV mic down on the lowest point where your buttons are on your polo shirt. It is too close to your mouth so there is some harsh transients/over modulation in your audio. Keep the vids coming though! There is always room for people helping people be more secure.

  2. I installed the same strike plate on my front and back door. The reason why the deadbolt hole is not aligned because both holes are made for only the door knob latch, depending on which side your door swings open. That is why both holes have the extended plate for the door knob latch. Depending on which hole you use for the door knob latch, you just have to cut out the holes for the deadbolt, as instructed in your video. It’s more work, but it’s worth the effort if the installation is done properly.

  3. Yes Can you please make another video to show how to install this strike plate? I want to watch exactly how you install this plate step by step. Thank you so much for your help!
